12ilit2011: The Fly: "How does Mansfield create credibility in her portrayal of the Boss?"

Katherine Mansfield has used language to portray the Boss's credibility. She describes "the great, green-leather armchair" in which the Boss sits in. This displays the power the Boss has. It shows the Boss has high standards in living and deserves to have the best of furnitures to be comfortable in. She uses Woodifield to present how the Boss is more greater than Woodifield " the boss, who rolled in his office chair, stout, rosy, fives years older than he [Woodifield], and still going strong, still at the helm". This demonstrates how the Boss is much more strong than Woodifield who is younger. This presents the credibility that the boss is more powerful even at an older age. The fact he is still working presents his strong mindset.
