When Lady Macbeth receives the letter from Macbeth, at first she is possibly inrigued and wants to know more, then when she realises that the first half of the witches predictions have come true she instantly believs that Macbeth can become King, and therefore wants to help him do so at any price. At first Lady Macbeth doubts that Macbeth can kill the king, because he is too loyal and too kind, then she decides to persuade him to kill Duncan.
Lady Macbeth's initial reaction to is one of joy and of great respect to Macbeth. It is also one of great belief in the matter due to the fact that the witches first half of the predictions have come true. However after pondering over the idea for a bit she comes across the fact that Macbeth is too kind hearted and good-willed to take power over the king (or simply to kill the king). This leads her to darker thoughts on how she will put the idea into Macbeth's head about killing the king. This gives us the impression that she is greedy, as she already has a great life in a very high up position however she has a need to be queen. It is this greed that makes us think that Lady Macbeth is a not so nice character, later quotes referring to spirits gives us the idea that perhaps she is also quite an evil character and may have some relation to the witches.

She does not believe Macbeth has the will to kill the king. Because of Lady Macbeth's eagerness for Macbeth to kill the king, our initial impression of her is that she is wicked and malicious. Lady Macbeth appears to be evil, as she expresses her wish for Macbeth to indeed kill the king: "Hie theee hither!..." she states, urging Macbeth to hurry home so that together they can plot to kill King Duncan. Overall, Lady Macbeth is presented as a dark character who sees no wrong in planning to kill the king.
